  • Shredded gruyère or Swiss cheese
  • 100 grams grey oyster mushrooms
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • Salt and pepper
  • Butter

  • Dip the two bread slices in the egg, then place the first slice on a hot skillet greased with butter. Place the ham, cheese, and mushrooms on top, then close the sandwich with the second bread slice.
  • Cook for around 3 minutes per side, or until the bread is toasted as much as you like. Enjoy with chips or salad.

Grilled cheese, croque monsieur, toastie…this warm and comforting sandwich has many names around the world, but it’s a staple in kitchens everywhere. Feel free to use turkey instead of ham, or to leave out the meat altogether. And don’t hesitate to get creative with the cheese–cheddar, brie, mozzarella…any melty cheese will do the trick.

And what sets this toastie apart from those you’ll find in sandwich shops all over the country? Homegrown mushrooms! Mushrooms add a nice earthy element and much appreciated vitamins to an otherwise veggie-free lunch. When you grow your own mushrooms, you can be sure that they’re organic, natural, and most of all FRESH! It’s not every day that you can pick fresh mushrooms and be cooking them 30 seconds later 🙂
